The emblematic windmill
Back to all places
Along with many houses, several windmills were also built in Nessebar during the 19th century. Thus, the local population utilized the force of the winds, constantly blowing on the peninsula. At present, 3 of the windmills are preserved. There are two types of windmills. The first has a cylindrical shape, and it’s made almost entirely of stone, with the exception of the conical roof. The second type has an additional square room above the stone base and a three-slope roof. The large wooden fins always face the strongest winds, and they were adjustable according to the wind direction and speed.
